- Admin/biog historyThis grand Victorian house was built for Mr. E.P. Rose in 1896 and the plans by Usher and Anthony, architects are held at the Record Office under Ref: Bor.B.P3189. The Register of Electors tells us that a Lydia Bodon Rose occupied the premises in 1920 and a William Herbert Knight and Ellen Josephine Knight had moved in by Spring 1921. When these photographs were taken in 1924 Ellen Josephine Knight still occupied the premises and a John Jennings and Elizabeth Stimson were recorded alongside her in the registers. No one was recorded at the premises in1926 but by 1927 Francis Murray and Ethel May Murray had taken over occupation. In the Bedfordshire trade directory for 1931 we find the same Francis Murray occupying 41 and 45 De Parys Avenue and running the premises as a private Hotel later to be known as the De Parys Hotel.
