F.E.Jones & Son Limited In 1918 Francis Ernest Jones began an automobile engineering service from premises at 16a Ashburnham Road, Bedford. From 1920 the company name changed to F E Jones and Son, as he was joined by his son Walter Jones, who became a partner in 1925. They became a limited company in 1931. In 1933 the works and office were at 8a Ashburnham Road and the showrooms & private lock up for 40 cars at 16a Ashburnham Road. Both 'open' and 'closed' cars were available for hire, and they were agents for Chevrolet, Bedford and Singer, dealing in commercial and private vehicles. By 1940 they also owned property at 18 Ashburnham Road. In 1965 the name was changed to Ashburnham Motor Engineers, Motor Car Agents and Self-Drive Hire.
