- TitleFemale. Primary school child. (Recorded at school) b. 04.08.1995 Side A The girl talks about living in Stewartby, formerly a private estate built exclusively for brickworkers employed by London Brick Company. Her grandfather worked at the brickworks. At school she has learned that the village of Stewartby used to be called Wootton Pillage and before the estate was built there were only a few cottages and a farm. Purple orchids grew there on marshy ground. The brickworks at Stewartby were once the largest in the world. Prince Phillip visited there in 1963 and was presented with a dinosaur backbone. The estate used to have an outdoor swimming pool. The clay pits still hold the fossils of primeval animals and plants, from the time when the area was under the sea, and dinosaur bones are regularly found there (and held by Bedford Museum). Her school friend found a fossil. End of Interview ORIGINAL INTERVIEW 11 mins.
