Richard Quenby was born in Houghton Conquest. He began his corn merchants business from a premises in Kempston High Street in the late 1860s. The 1881 Census records him as a farmer of 43 acres in Kempston, living with his wife Susanne and 8 children. The business closed in the early 1930s.
