The club was formed in May 1875 with 59 members. The proceedings of this society were published in three volumes from 1875-1884 but then ceased to exist. Although the Bedford Natural History Society was founded in 1888 there was no further county-wide organisation until the Bedfordshire Natural History Society and Field Club was re-founded in October 1946. This club was later renamed the Bedfordshire Natural History Society.

artificially assembled by the Record Office from material formerly forming part of the Searchroom Library and duplicates weeded from other official and unofficial unless otherwise stated (ie where an accession number occurs).
