i) Sir Hen Grey of Wrest, knt.
ii) Sir Jn Seynt John of Bletsoe, knt.
agreed betw. i) & ii) that Henry Grey, son of i) & his heir,
will marry Margy., one of duas. of ii) before Feast of All Saints
next ensuing
i) covenants to make them an estate of yrly. value of 50 of
lands in Beds. with the following as feoffees:
Sir Hen Parker, Sir Mich Fisher, Sir Thos Rotherham, knts.,
Jn Gostwyk, esq., Oliv. Seynt John, esq., son & h to ii),
Thos Callthorpe,esq., Edw Samyell & Wm Fitzhughe,gents.
arranged in the following manner:
20p.a. to use of sd. Hen & Margy & their heirs male immediately
after their marriage
30 p,a. to i) for life without impeachment for waste & after his
death to sd. Hen & Margy
Remainder to i) if Hen & Margy have no legitimate issue
i) to leave to Hen & Margy after his death all manors, lands & tens.
which he has
If i)'s wife, Anne, dies then i) can dower any following wives out
of the sd. 50 worth of lands for her life & can assure premises
to yrly. value of 40 marks to his younger sons for the term of their
lives only
ii) to pay i) 600 marks that is:
200 marks on day of wedding
100 marks on All Saints Day 1539 at south door of St Paul's,
Bedford, betw. 9am & 11am
100 marks on All Saints Day 1540, at same place etc, and so on
until all 600 marks paid
