To Arnie and Hannah Frank signed M.T., Sidcot 25 Nov 1835 What I do thou knowest not now, but thou shalt know hereafter John XIII - 7 How often we have need to bear in mind, This declaration by the saviour made When by a sudden fatal stroke we find Some darling hope must in the dust be laid When some lov'd sapling flourishing and fair On which we hoped to lean in future years Bows to the influence of a blighting air And from our sight forever disappears When wounded nature wish deep suffering fraught Is ready to enquire 'What doest thou?' How calming the influence of the thought That though the all wise design we know not now If we our minds in faith and patience stay The mysteries which we cannot now unfold We may be able in a future day As messengers of mercy to behold; Sent it may be our pleasant gourds to take, From some impending ill or hidden snare And plant them safely for the saviours sake Beyond the reach of blight from toil and care And surely you my valued friends have known That for whatever secret wise intent Your Lord recall'd those gifts which were his own Unerring wisdom sanctioned the events And feeling this you can in silence bow As the dumb sheep before her shearer lies Through faith in Christ Although you know not now Why thus your confidence he closely tries Oh! May He still your drooping minds sustain Whan nature's feelings raise a conflict there May you, the faithful subjects of his reign Still in the boundless daily mercies share That so through the remainder of your day Every bereavement, sanctified and blest, May look like useful watchwords in that way Which leads to endless and unsullied rest.
