My Dear Children
I was very pleased to receive dear Pollies' [Mary Ann Strange] letter - I am glad to hear you are all well.- I am not able to say so of myself I have been suffering with the Back ache nearly a fortnight when I sit down find it very difficult to get up again have tried rubbing it with various things, but at present find very little relief but I trust in time shall get better.
This morning could not read your letter without a light - we have not had such a fog this Autumn, I went to Islington to Tea on Sunday hoping to go & hear Mr Sankey but felt poorly so thought it best to go home which was a great disappointment it is now a fortnight since I was at Vernon & then he gave us such a sermon I shall not forget, we had a very nice Meeting on Sunday morning at our own place 3 young Men spoke & I am sure you will be pleased when I tell that Richard Beck was one of them he said that he had got that peace of mind that the world can neither give nor take away I thought what a truly blessed young Man,- you also be glad to hear that Harry Fairweather sang a solo I don't know where beginning with the words He was despised & rejected of Men & got a prize of 2 sovereigns as the second prize,-
The weather has been very mild for the season hope it may continue so that men may keep in work.
We don't hear anything encouraging from Henry Lottie was at Newington a few days since she seems cheerful but I rather think it is put on,-
I saw William a few days since the dear Babes & the rest are well - Also Edwin & family are well,- I hope to dine with Edwin on Sunday if better also on Xmas day & go to Barnet on Boxing day ,-
Please excuse more my back is aching bad, give lots of kisses & love to the dear Children & accept a large share yourselves, from your
Affectionate Father
William Halford
