My Dear Children
Nothing would give us more pleasure than for dear Pollie to come & see her dear Mother. We have felt very unwilling to bring you such a distance at this Season of the year but we now feel it is our duty no longer to withhold our wish for dear Pollie to come as far Mother is very poorly indeed not only are her legs swollen but also her thighs & just above the ancle [sic] is very much inflamed and the Doctor is afraid they will burst,- we feel very grateful to dear Sam for being so willing to let his dear Wife come to us, we hope she will not come by the early train & be sure to wrap well up, if nothing happens that we shall have to send for thee before hope to see thee next week.
Please let us know what day we may expect thee or shall I come & meet thee,- William left us yesterday , we heard this morning from him he arrived safe at home,- Dear Pollies plum puddings are very nice indeed, give our love to Lucy I hope she will take care of dear Sam while thee are away,-
Lucy received thy letter this morning perhaps this from me will answer for both they send their love-.
Today is the 70 anniversary of my birth my anxiety for dear Mother seems to have told very heavy upon me but I trust we shall all be supported under this very heavy trial,-
J.J.Fox told me the other day he thought it would prove fatal of course no one can tell how long she will have to endure her suffering, but she looks to the sunny side as she always has. She don't think its the dropsy & we think it best not to inform her it is,-
Your dear Mother sends her love & accept a large share from your affectionate Father
W.Halford.
