Sharples & Co to Charles May 8 April 1856 Hitchin 8 April 1856
My dear Friend Charles May
It was very pleasant to me to see your handwriting once more, this pleasure is not altogether removed although I observe in your letter one or two passages expressive of a feeling not very cordial towards our firm as I and the other partners are barely cognisant even by report of the matters to which they refer.
You allude to a subject of some importance to you and to us viz.: the possibility of your being able to afford us in your newly purchased house at Ampthill that accommodation which the increasing importance of our connection there appears to require, this & also other difference between your views & ours as to the relative positions of your Brother & ourselves makes me very much desire a little quiet conversation with you about these things.
Where & when shall this be? would next Wednesday suit you. Please remember me very kindly to your good Lady & all your home circle & believe me
very affectionately yours
(Signed) Francis Lucas.
