Edward Harris Strange to Mary Ellen Strange 6 Nov 1853 Ampthill 11 mo 6.1853 My dear Mary Ellen I hardly know what thou wilt say to me if I omitted to write to thee this week, having received so many nice long & interesting letters from thee since I last wrote. The fact is Elizabeth Wells writes so frequently giving "in extenso" all domestic and home particulars that there is little left for me to write about & being pretty fully employed with everyday concerns I feel more excused than I otherwise should - Thou hast heard I believe the plan that has been proposed for thy stopping at Gt George St for a few days on the way home for the winter vacation -thy aunt & cousins seem to wish it & as thou doesn't appear to have much objection to the proposition I think it had better be acted upon - any further details relating to it may be left to nearer the time - I include Gertrude's "Quarterly" letter which I think is a very creditable performance. {Take} it altogether Annie is highly delighted with the prospect of going to London - she wants to take her little Polish Chicken with her, - thinks it might be packed in her box - The Hitchin & Bedford exhibitions will be over before thou comes home; I am intending to send several Pens to each the number of prizes obtained shall be duly communicated if not by "telegraph" by some other expeditious way - Thou wilt probably see some of the Peckhamites after they have removed to Reigate, which they propose doing tomorrow week - it will make a great commotion removing all their goods &c but it seems a nice airy situation & I hope they will like it better than their present abode - it is considered a very healthy place.- Henry Pearman was here the day before yesterday & he says they have {lately} had 10 or 12 cases of Cholera at Luton - an Ampthill family of the name of Sawyer lost two of its members - there have been no recent cases. Wilt thou send Gertrude's letter to Cousin Margaret after thou hast read it. With very dear love I am thy affectionate Papa.
