Samuel May Strange to Edward Harris Strange 5 Nov 1851 Ackworth School 11 mo.5th.1851 Dear Papa It is rather a long time since I wrote to thee last, but I have been waiting for another letter, as I think it is thy turn to write now; I don't think I should have written a letter, only that it was our turn to write in school. This morning some water was poured down the flags, to make a slide for us, and after breakfast we had a slide. Yesterday we went a walk, and one of the boys found a hedgehog colled [sic] up because of the cold. When we were put in our places after the Examination, I got down to the tenth place. A few weeks ago Edward Backhouse Junior gave us a lecture about his travels in Norway, with two American Friends, named John & Elizabeth Meader. He told us they had to undergo worse hardships than drinking out of iron pans. I was very much interested in the account. I don't think I have got anything more to say now, so with dear love, I remain Thy affectionate son Samuel M.Strange.
