John Shewell to Edward Harris Strange 13 Mar 1849
Rushmere 3rd mo 13th 1849
Dear Friend
On going down to Ipswich to attend our Meeting there on first day, I heard the sad Intelligence that it had pleased the All-wise Disposer of Events to remove from thee, after a short Illness, of thy beloved Partner in life, the mother of thy dear Children and the Sharer in all thy domestic & household Cares.-
Intelligence which has schooled, as we have lately been here, in Scenes & subjects of sorrow, brought my mind under a feeling of near sympathy with thee under the affecting & unexpected bereavement...may need some apology for thus intruding...&c.&c.&c.
John I. Shewell.
