My dear Friend
It was with the deepest concern I this morning received the distressing & melancholy intelligence of the death of your beloved wife, permit me to offer my sincere condolence & sympathy, I deeply feel for you it is indeed a painful stroke, the Almighty power who has visited you with this sore affliction can alone impart the consolation & resignation under which you stand in need of may it be abundantly administered to you is my earnest prayer.
I feel more for you than words can express & also for her dear Father who I am sure it will affect deeply. How mysterious do the ways of the Most High often appear to us poor short sighted mortals, but what we know not now we shall know hereafter -
Accept these few imperfect lines as a token of affectionate regard to yourself & the dear departed & with love to the dear friends, with you I remain
Your sincerely sympathetic friend
M.Dumelow.
