Mary Ellen Strange to Priscilla Strange 4 Oct 1848 Ackworth School 10th moth Dear Mamma I am very sorry to hear that Sammy has been so ill. I should like in my parcel Todd's simple sketches and Humphrey's addresses. L.Rous is going to get a handkerchief for me next 7th day. I should very much like a little of the shaded wool but I shall want a pair of knitting needles to knit it with also a pair that would do to knit tuckers with. I should like to know when Leicester fair is. I was very glad to receive thy nice long letter this morning. Governess left on 2nd day and I think there was not a girl apprentice or teacher who did not cry that evening. M.J.Neville is going to leave soon. There are a great many girls poorly just now with spots & boils. I am trying to Crochet a mat. We go into class every evening now. Lydia Rous desires her dear love and with a great deal from myself I remain thine M.E.Strange. Seal : green oblong with "HOPE", on paper. Stamp : penny red on paper.
