Mariana Tuckett to Priscilla Strange 20 March 1847 Frenchay 6th day My dear Cousin My dear Francis & I had fully intended and arranged to be with you tomorrow evening, and unite with the mourning circle in following to their last resting place the remains of one so beloved, & valued -, but Francis continues so poorly that we fear he is quite unfit for the exposure, and would only be a burden to you, and therefore conclude it best to give up all intention of being at Ampthill tomorrow - Quiet change of air seems so desirable for my dear F, that that we propose taking a short journey somewhere for a few days, & this I trust will prove beneficial, and lessen the oppressive cough which now harasses him - From Falmouth, & elsewhere we hear much sympathy expressed with your sorrowing circle, and feeling at the departure of one so beloved as thy precious mother deservedly was - It would have been very interesting to us to be with you next 1st day, but I am entirely of the opinion that Francis is too poorly to be much in company, or in any way exposed to excitement, evening air, or damp - Excuse this hurried note, but a man waits to take it to Bristol that it may reach you tomorrow,- With our united dear love to my dear Uncle, thy husband, children, & self, & to the relative band assembled at Ampthill believe me thy affectionate cousin M.F.Tuckett Envelope: Penny red.
