Ann May to Priscilla May May 1832 Bishopgate 6th day My dear P. After scribbling a very few hurried lines to thee yesterday morning I was sorry to find them return'd to me from the shop too late for the parcel. Jane is to come down in the parlour now, but has for several days felt it safest to keep her chamber. She is going to request her mother to come next 3rd day when it is likely I shall be going to Alton. My sister H. sent word by Mary Ann M. yesterday that I should not wait for her as she was too uncertain, Emily & I believe Caroline having the mumps caught at Tottenham by meeting Edmund Hooper. Our sitting yesterday morning was much favoured with Gospel ministry Ann Jones at the commencement. [continues in pencil] Prevented going on I may now add that Mary Curtis brought a nice letter from Alton with information that my Sister Maddock is altered, complaining of uneasiness all over I want another account to determine whether I go there or wait until 3rd. Having concluded to go on 7th day we have sent to take a place but not one is there in either of the coaches, so I must go by the Southampton on 2nd it seems as tho' it would be a relief to all for me to see my poor sister under the present affliction. William Maddock is sent to & we are sadly afraid Sarah will think proper to come with him she has not been home a week after staying a great while with some of her friends here in town. P.May
