Priscilla May to Ann May 21 Oct 1829 [Bishopsgate] My dearest Mother Thy letter which came by J.P.W. was truly acceptable especially as it gave a better account of Father's health which I hope is still improving. - Thy account of E.Johnson was interesting as we had not heard of his death before Father mentioned it I took it to read at Cornhill. Last 5th day we went to the Zoological Gardens, F.& J.[Francis & Jane May] & myself which amused us very much.- F. then drove us back to Uncle Edward's & left us there according to an engagement we dined & drank tea there Uncle was very kind & polite to us.- Aunt I think is rather out of spirits not having recovered from the effects of being overturned - George was not at home. I have been deterred from going to K.[Kennington] yesterday as I had intended from Jane's indisposition which but I hope in the course of a few days she will recover her strength she was taken so very poorly on sixth day evening & has been kept quiet in bed since but intends getting up to tea this afternoon Edward happened to call just in time so that she went up to see her. Francis is gone to Tottenham to give the report - need I tell thee what it is that is the matter - she thinks it cannot be more than six or eight weeks - I think she has had too much to do with Louisa [L.May] lately, having had the entire charge of her since she came home. I have her now at nights & wash & dress, take her out &c. &c. so thou mayst think I have plenty to do. I intend going to K. as soon as I can. I find T.Jeffery has lost both his wife & daughter; the other daughter is likely to be married very soon to David Brandsley. Emma Curtis is going into Norfolk next week. Uncle Arch is better. Jane has engaged a servant instead of Lucy.- With my very dear love to F. brother & thyself I think I must conclude as my chatterbox is close to me - I remain Thy ever affectinate Priscilla.
