Ann May to Priscilla May 24 Nov 1826 Ampthill 11th/24th My dearest P. Thy nice long letter made ample amends for all my waiting & wondering and now I am coming up on thee with a very unexpected proposition - aware that Lewis would indeed be a clog upon me in town I have been twisting the matter about until it occurred to me that it would add little to the expense & greatly to the convenience if thou could'st fill my place at the table during my absence but then I prefer thy having a companion & concluding no one would be more agreeable than S.H.[Sarah Holmes] jun. have been scribbling to F. & J to assist it by asking the favor - I think my dear thou wilt have completed thy visit to Kennington - quite or perhaps before next 2nd day week our present plan is to go up next 6th day (or perhaps 7th) to Tottenham thy F. to return the following 2nd with thee with the prospect of allowing thee to go up again to perform thy visit to Henley when I am fetched this will I hope be agreeable to thee especially if thy dear friend Sarah can be spared but if she cannot who shall I propose? if Eliza Foster could come I should like it much & if I can know in time will invite her as we purpose being at Hitchin on first day at M.M. to lodge at J.Sharples's that night & next at Grove House by special invitation, a social bride visit will it not -- Eliza Bennell lodged here the other night desired her love to thee & spoke so affectionately that I was pained at the thought of thy rejecting her as a friend do my dear be less severe in thy censure & only make use of the sad reports by setting her a good example for who is there without a failing! I think her an amiable girl & hope your friendship will increase - I am very busy bestirring myself about our A.L.S. intend going amongst the subscribers today with Maria - If thy aunt thinks thy notion about a fur tippet a good one provide thyself accordingly - There is no steel-capped thimble at C's that I like if thou dost not approve of this it may be returned - The stockings sent have scarcely been worn the feet are too long for me they may serve thee for the present. J.P.Wise expects to be in town on 7 day evening couldst thou say by him how thou approvest of this sagacious contrivance of mine - Thy ever affec M.in haste P.May
