Charles May to Priscilla May Feb-Mar 1824 Tottenham My Dear Sister You will all be so anxious to hear that I hasten to give thee a few lines per Coach. Mother & I arrived safe last night about 11 o'clock but found James very ill; still Edward says it is not a hopeless case which affords some little encouragement - it is however the greatest consolation to find our dear sufferer perfectly resigned; he has had much to pass through and is now favoured to feel not the least anxiety respecting the termination of his complaint. Edward & I have been in the room most of the nights: he has slept a little but not as much as he would have done, had not the blister on his back been painful. From extreme weakness his articulation is not quite distinct but I think it is a little {rambling}. I intend going down {by} coach this afternoon & John Mann should be told to meet me with the great horse & chaise; but if the horse has been to Leighton to day I will sleep at Hitchin & he may come to fetch me tomorrow morning early. Tell W. Holmes that J. Mann should go over in time to bait the horse & have all ready by the time the coach gets in. Father intends being home on 5th day at latest. James desires his love to thee in which we all unite I remain Thy affectionate Brother, C. May give the annexed to William. No address.
