Admin/biog history
Rev. John Holding, after a period as a missionary in Madagascar and appointments in several different parishes from Yorkshire to Cambridgeshire, gained his MA at Queen's College, Cambridge in 1886 and was vicar of Stotfold from 1893 to c.1904. During his time at Stotfold he undertook research into the origins and relationships of the Spencer families in Edworth, Blunham and Eaton Socon, resulting in the publication of his booklet, "The Spencers of Bedfordshire", in 1903 [see 190 SPE on searchroom shelf]. The family charts listed below, hand-written by him on separate sheets of paper, were drafted during the research and some were incorporated into his booklet.
