E.K. & H.Fordham Limited of Ashwell [Hertfordshire] This company began in Ashwell in 1796 with a brewery built by Elias Pym Fordham on land leased from the Whitbread family. E.P.Fordham's son Oswald ran the business with his elder brother Edward from 1833 until Oswald's death in 1864 when the company became known as E.K. & H.Fordham, being run by Edward (who died in 1889) and his cousin Herbert (later Sir Herbert) who died in 1929. William Herbert Fordham then ran the company until it was bought by J.W.Green Limited [see WB/Green] in 1952. The Ashwell brewery then became a bottle store until its closure in 1965
