Copy letter: Brandreth to Rev. Hugh Smyth. ' Your letters have followed me to and from the sea side. They shall be laid, as desired before the Trustees of the Houghton Regis Free School. My opinion of the Trustees in spite of your personal insinuations that they act upon their own judgment, and not under my influence.. I am sure we all should regret that you would ' waste either your breath or your temper ' as regard the Charity, as the one would be more usefully employed in exhortations in pariochial visitations of the poor, and the other so governed and tempered as to render those visits and exhortations spiritually benificial to the sick and the dying. I hope that the improvement in your health from your lengthened sojourn at the sea side will repay you for your absence from the Ministerial duties of the Parish.''
