  • Title
Letter: Henry Brandreth, Houghton House, to the Rev. R. Jacson, Bebington, nr. Chester (altered to T. Tarlton esq., Cloverley Hall, Witchurch). Is honoured with letter of 22nd. As principal proprietor of parish much interested in charity school. By Mr. Whitehead's will Jacson could transfer trust to 6 substantial inhabs. of parish, but this might only tend to create confusion. Had been complaint agst. schoolmaster 2 or 3 years ago for neglect (he was also clerk to magistrates etc.) but this was really move by non-conformists to remove Mr. Lesley so as to have master of their own persuasion, not knowing that Jacson was of the established church. Describes property. There has never been any foundation deed. Mr. Mead, late curate, who called on Mr. Jacson, is now in the King's Bench Prison for debt, and is unlikely to return to the neighbourhood. Now no resident vicar.
