Case for opinion of counsel, as to the provision in will of Hen. Brandreth that the persons for the time being entitled to the mansion house at Houghton should occupy the same for not less than 3 months every year. 'The Mansion House at Houghton Regis is about 150 years old and is a very incommodious and dilapidated building. Mr. Humprey Brandreth the present Tenant for life is desirous of pulling down the present old structure and building a new Mansion on a different scite, but on the same portion of the property on which the present House stands ... The cost of building a new mansion would perhaps amount to several thousand pounds. Mr. Humprey Brandreth the present tenant for life has never been married. ' Query: can the present house be pulled down and a new mansion be built on a fresh site, and can the money necesary be raised from the £20.000, or could it be rebuilt with his private fortune? Opinion of Jn. Bailey, Lincolns Inn, 17 Jan 1851. Mr. Humprey Brandreth cannot pull down or use the £20,000 to rebuild.
