APPOINTMENT by Dame Milard widow and relict of Sir Wm. Milard
late of Houghton Regis knight.
- the messuages land and tent. near Cooke Lane and the common
Green in H.R. and all land and buildings; the Picked acre
nearby; Mill Hill Piece cont. 22a the Three Acre Piece in
or near Mamsey; freehold lands in the fields of H.R. lately
pur. of Jn. Pedder and his brothers and sisters, and all
copyhold lands purchased of Jn. Pedder and Wm. Dixon
to the use of nephew Nehemiah Brandreth, 2nd son of br. Nehemiah
Brandreth for life, then to trustees Wm. and Nathaniel Eeles
to use of Thoswihan Brandreth first son of Nehemiah Brandreth and
the heirs of Thoswihan, in default to use 2nd, 3rd etc. sons
of Nehemiah Brandreth the son, in default to the right heirs of
Nehemiah Brandreth the son.
- 41 issuing from Rectory of Houghton Regis to Thoswihan
Brandreth and heirs etc. as above, the father to use the
money for his 'liberal education'. If Isabella Brandreth, now
wife of Nehemiah the son and mother of Thoswihan, or any other
wife shall survive her husband, then she to have the use for her
life.
- Rectory of Houghton Regis, parsonage or mansion house, tithes,
etc.
to use of 2 nieces Alice Brandreth and Rebecca Brandreth for 100
years of secure to them the payment of 1,500, 500 to Alice and
1000 to Rebecca, reversion to nephew Nehemiah and then to
great-nephew Thoswihan.
- property in Leighton Buzzard to use of niece Alice Brandreth
and heirs, and if she die before marriage, to use nephew
Nehemiah and his right heirs.
She has given her 'jewell of diamonds' to Alice Brandreth, and
her necklace of 'orientall pearle' to Rebecca Brandreth. All her
other plate, household goods etc. shall after death remain
'as - Heir Looms and go along with my Mansion House or Messuage
near Cock Lane aforesaid and other my aforesaid Lands and
Tenements purchased of the aforesaid John Pedder and his Brothers
and Sisters'.
After her death her coach, chariot, houses, cattle, carts, waggons,
harness, corn etc. in H.R. or elsewhere in Beds., and rents from
Appledram in Sussex and other personal estate to be paid over to
nephew Nehemiah Brandreth to pay for funeral, to buy a grave stone
over her corpse in the chancel of H.R. between the grave of her
father and of her last husband Sir Wm. Milard.
Then to the poor of H.R. 25; to nephew Henry the eldest son of her
brother Nehemiah 10 for mourning; to sister in law Mrs. Olivia
Brandreth 10 for mourning; to Wm. and Nathaniel Eeles sons of
Jn. Eeles decd. 5 each for mourning: to cousin Joseph Brandreth
son of cousin Henry Brandreth late of London decd. 40 when he
finishes his apprenticeship; to William Brandreth brother of sd.
Joseph 30 at the age of 21; to cousin Jn. Buncker 5; to
loving friend Mary Gurne widow of Mr. Geo. Gurne sen. decd. 5;
to loving friend Mrs. Hogell wife of Mr. Wm. Hogell of London 5;
to loving friend Mr. Cresey of H.R. 5; to chief waiting maid
living with her at the time of her death 5 for mourning:
any surplus to nephew Nehemiah.
Provision for revocation.
Witn. Thos. Timberlacke tenant of Lady Milard's for the tithes of
H.R., Sarah Timberlack his wife, William Webb a gardener of the
Lady Milard's.
