This voluntary body was set up in 1953 to be a pioneering service for other similar bodies in the county. It was federated to the Bedfordshire Old People's Welfare Council and the National Old People's Welfare Council but was run autonomously by local people; the Committee changed its name to Kempston Rural Retired Persons' Association and was eventually wound up in 1995
