This battalion was formed in September 1914 and attached to 71st Brigade, 24th Division; it landed in France in September 1915 and was transferred to 16th Brigade, 6th Division on 17 Nov 1915; it was disbanded on 16 Feb 1918
The 6th Division was composed as follows:
16th Brigade: 1st East Kent [Buffs]; 8th Bedfordshire [disbanded 18 Feb 1918, men transferred to 6th and 7th battalions]; 1st King's Shropshire Light Infantry; 2nd York & Lancaster
18th Brigade: 1st West Yorkshire; 11th Essex; 2nd Durham Light Infantry; 14th Durham Light Infantry [disbanded 1 Feb 1918]; 1/16th (County of London) London Regiment [left Feb 1916]
71st Brigade: 9th Norfolk; 9th Suffolk [disbanded 16 Feb 1918]; 1st Leicestershire; 2nd Sherwood Foresters
