1757 - 1881 Raised in Herts. as The Herts. Militia; embodied for garrison duty at intervals; reorganised & substantially re-raised 1852; attached to 33rd Sub District Brigade (HQ Bedford) 1873
1881 (July) Became part of The Bedfordshire Regiment under General Order 41/1881, as 4th Bn. The Bedfordshire Regiment (Hertfordshire Militia). Bn. HQ remained at Hertford.
1900 - 1902 Embodied & volunteered for service in South Africa
1908 (June) Transferred to Special Reserve as 4th (Extra Reserve) Bn The Beds. Regt.
1914 - 1919 Embodied for service. Served as draft finding and garrison unit with home forces until Jul 1916; then with 190 Infantry Brigade, 63rd (Royal Naval) Division in France & Flanders until Nov 1918; and with the Army of Occupation until early 1919
1919 - 1953 Battalion in "suspended animation"
1953 Disbanded
