  • Scope and Content
The two manors, Westhey and Faldo, had amalgamated by 1559 under the ownership of the Apreece family. When Robert Apreece sold off the property in lots in 1613, Nicholas Crowche seems to have acquired the lion's share as he was given ownership of the manorial waste. Edward Crawley acquired other, smaller parts of the manor, some of which he sold off piecemeal and others he used to raise money. The Crawleys hung on to Barton Bridge Closes until 1660, when they gave them as part of the marriage settlement between Thomas Crawley and Sarah Battell. The Closes passed from them to Edmund Castell, then to Charles Nicholls in 1684. For a plan of the 'old' Barton Bridge, with dimensions, see QBP 10 p.64. For the descent of the Manor House known as Faldo Farm, see X95/90-125.
