The remains of the original manor House manifest themselves in the 3 cottages at the rear of Hinwick House with a rare 4 seater loo which is also thought to be original. Richard Orlebar began the building of Hinwick House in February 1709 and completed it in 1713. It may have been designed by John Hunt of Northampton, who carved the large bas-relief of Diana on the south front. He is reputed to have been a pupil of the famous Grinling Gibbons. the house was built of local stone dug out of its own cellars, the ha-ha and stone pit. The total cost was £3,848 4s 9d and today it represents a very pure example of domestic Queen Anne architecture. The ornamental stonework was in general carved in Ketton stone. The oak timber for the most part came from Mr.Orlebar's own plantations, but was supplemented from Sir Thomas Alston's large wood at Odell (a neighbouring parish), and also from Rockingham Forest. the pediment which depicts Diana, the goddess of hunting, was Mr.Orlebar's compliment to his wife Diana (nee Diana Astry of Henbury, Gloucestershire) as much of her money was used to build the house. They were both very keen fox-hunters and only gave up through rheumatism. Mr.Orlebar gave his hounds to the Duke of Grafton and Lord Halifax between 1716-1727. In 1859 Mr.Richard Longuet Orlebar added the Victorian Wing"; - layout: main house: ground floor: front hall (27 feet by 18 feet 6 inches); staircase hall (23 feet 6 inches by 18 feet); S and W library (23 feet 9 inches by 16 feet 9 inches); S and E drawing room (32 feet 6 inches by 23 feet 6 inches); E dining room (28 feet 6 inches by 18 feet 3 inches); E sitting room (15 feet 3 inches by 13 feet 6 inches); inner hall; N and W kitchen (18 feet 6 inches by 30 feet 3 inches); cellars; - main house: first floor: galleried landing; The Chintz Room (18 feet 6 inches by 16 feet 9 inches); The Pink Room (18 feet 9 inches by 19 feet); The Blue Room (17 feet 9 inches by 13 feet); The Yellow Room (20 feet by 18 feet 6 inches); two other bedrooms; dressing room; two bathrooms; maid's room (12 feet 3 inches by 7 feet 6 inches); - main house: second floor: eight bedrooms; cloakroom; landing; - Flat 1: hallway; bathroom; dining room (16 feet by 9 feet 3 inches); kitchen (15 feet 6 inches by 11 feet 9 inches); sitting room (22 feet 6 inches by 16 feet 9 inches); three bedrooms; - Flat 2: landing; bathroom; kitchen (15 feet 9 inches by 12 feet); three bedrooms; sitting room (18 feet by 16 feet 3 inches); - North Turret Cottage (vacant): entrance hall; dining room (17 feet by 9 feet 6 inches); sitting room (15 feet by 13 feet); kitchen; first floor two bedrooms and a bathroom; third floor two bedrooms; - West Turret Cottage: sitting room (16 feet 3 inches by 11 feet 9 inches); kitchen (13 feet by 11 feet 3 inches); bathroom; first floor landing and two bedrooms; - South Turret Cottage: kitchen (12 feet 3 inches by 13 feet); bathroom; sitting room (16 feet 9 inches by 11 feet 9 inches); first floor three bedrooms; - "The former Flemish House Restaurant adjoins Hinwick House.
