    Sale catalogue of Harlington Manor - agent: Knight Frank & Rutley of 20 Hanover Square, London; - description: "This interesting manor house is Grade II listed as being of historical and architectural interest. The majority of the building is 16th century with later additions by Professor Richardson. In the early 17th century the house was lived in by Lewis Burwell who emigrated to American in 1640 and later became Governor of Virginia. Charles II is said to have slept in the King's Room, and John Bunyan after his arrest in 1660 appeared before the magistrate in the Drawing Room of Harlington Manor. Edmund Wingate, the mathematician and tutor of Henrietta Maria in Paris resided here during the Protectorate. The house is mentioned in Joyce Godber's "History of Bedfordshire" and in several other historical and architectural accounts of Bedfordshire, and in the Readers Digest "Treasures of Britain". The house is constructed of rendered and white painted elevations under a tiled roof with leaded light windows. Some of the elevations are covered in wisteria and other well established climbing creepers.
