Admin/biog history
The organisation started in 1972 at the Health Centre, Union Street, Bedford. The project was staffed by a team of professionally qualified volunteers and funded by a small Local Authority grant. In 1977 it was discovered that a registered charity also used the title, being 'FREE' - The National Institute for Healing Addictions, Harley Street, London. This adversely effected the project as a countywide advertising campaign had to be abandoned, and the project finally closed down.
