Date Free Text: 27 November 1840, proved 23 Dec 1843. All debts, funeral and testamentary expenses to be paid by executors. To wife Dorothy all estate at Kirkby Lonsdale, County of Westmoreland, with the buildings and croft at Kemps Hill all in the occupation of John Tallon, the dwelling house at New Street, Lancaster, all household goods and furniture, plate, linen, china, wine and other liquors, gold watch and horse and carriage, any loose change in the desk. I also give to my wife a yearly annuity of 300 during the term of her natural life. To the Lancaster Dispensary and House of Recovery 100. To my nephew Christopher Jackson Greenwood my collection of medical books, should he refuse them they can be given to Dr Richard Caton of Bradford, and should he refuse them to J T Bateson of Lancaster, Surgeon. To our faithful and always obliging servant Elizabeth Hollies 50. All residue of estates and all mortgages whether in fee for years and bonds and other securities and all trust estates to my brothers John Greenwood and William Greenwood.House in New Street directed to be sold after the death of his wife and all other residue of my estate I direct shall be divided into four equal parts: one to my sister Ann Greenwood, one to my brother John Greenwood, one to my brother William Greenwood, one part to be invested and any interest and dividends shall be paid to my brother James Greenwood during the term of his natural life and after his decease to his widow, and after her decease or remarriage equally amongst their children but as to their son Christopher Jackson Greenwood the interest shall be paid for the term of his natural life and after his decease the principal to be divided amongst his three sisters and the children of his deceased sister Ann the late wife of James H Holder of Preston, Surgeon. Appoints brothers John Greenwood and William Greenwood joint Executors. Codicil bequeathing 1000 to his wife in addition to bequests previously stated 27 November 1840, witnessed by Leonard Willan and John Moore.
