  • Scope and Content
From: 32549, 17th Sussex, Egyptian Expeditionary Force, Egypt Dear Maude, Have I been neglecting you? I answered your letter from Plymouth I believe, but I fear that I have not written in a fortnight now, and my conscience smites me. Thank you for the heather and for remembering I should like a piece of cake and a photograph. I really do not deserve all your kindness. We who remain in the army are apt to feel disconsolate as others leave for home and I, an 1918 MSA [Military Service Act] man have not even the privilege of moaning when 1916 men are stlll here. Sometimes I wish – but – maleesh! The little snap you enclosed was very good indeed and you certainly look happy! Our efforts to obtain the position as runners-up in the Suez league have been crowned with success and we should [underlined] get medals.
