  • Scope and Content
Dear Mama, I received your letter this morning and was rather surprised to learn that you have had an answer from the War Office. Judging from the difficulty which fellows with very strong cases have in getting out, I should not stand much chance I am afraid. However it is hopeless now for the draft leaves on Thursday. Never mind, mama dear, for I think I shall get on pretty well with two such good chums as Bryeeson and Cazaly. The latter is twenty four and an awfully nice fellow. He is extremely clever at most studies and sports although he is rather reserved being deaf. I will write often and take care of myself. Bryeeson and Cazaly are both splendidly strong and will help me doubtless, if you don’t trust to me. Jimmy Woods is getting ‘demobbed’, although he would not have required much persuading to stay, for he wants to go to Egypt again. Probably we shall go by overland route via Marseilles and Parindisi [Brindisi] and from there to Alexandria. I should very much have liked to be home for Easter – or for good, but still we musn’t grumble for after all it is worse for Alf, who has three year’s service and trouble at home. Please, don’t worry, mama for there is no need and you will only make Louis and papa unhappy – and me too. I will drop a line from London or whatever towns we stop at. Love to all Your’s lovingly Cyril
