  • Scope and Content
From: [‘L’ 16 ‘L’ Lines], E Company, 3rd Beds, Brocton Camp Dear Mama, I reached Euston station yesterday with ample time to spare, and after having a cup of tea and some sandwiches at the buffet, I made for my train meeting with two of my comrades on the way. Our train the 4.45 from Euston ran straight through to Stafford, stopping only at Rugby for water. At Stafford we engaged a taxi and arrived very comfortably at Brocton. There our troubles commenced, for we discovered that the draft had been shifted into ‘h’ lines which is practically a mile away from our old hutments. Drawing our beds and blankets from the stores we set out across the valley looking very much like the pack camels. You see we all had the hump. [‘L’] lines are much better quarters being just opposite the YMCA and CA Huts the post office etc. I cannot say if we shall be punished for overstaying our leave. Sixteen are still absent, Bryeeson among them. Jimmy Woods is once again my bed-mate. He is not pushing his case for demob, very strongly for he is quite keen on visiting Egypt again and the fear of unemployment weigh heavily upon him. Four letters were awaiting me, two of them from the pen of Les, who is at Le Treport, and hoping to get in the Ordnance Corps at Calais. Well, dinner is ‘up’ now, so I must close. We do not know when the draft leaves yet. Love to all Yours lovingly Cyril
