  • Scope and Content
Dear Mama, I received the parcel last night, and was very pleased with it. Your letter brought up the rear this morning, and I smiled to think of the fate of some of the things you mentioned as contents of the parcel already arrived. Some of them had ‘gone west’ by then. I was discharged from hospital yesterday although I am quite sure that my ankle is not sufficiently strong to warrant it. Nevertheless, if I take care of it, I think it will regain its strength. You see it was a fearful twist and I nearly fainted at the time but it has progressed pretty well. We are all grousing about leave, but there is no signs yet of its approach and until we settle down somewhere I suppose it is foolish to expect it. They will not get many soldiers to fight against the miners on the latters new programme being made public. The miners are adopting a course I thought they would have taken long ago striking for the soldiers. Owing to my weeks sojourn in ‘hospital’ I shall have to forego my pay this week, although I am entitled to it. Fortunately my reserve funds are sufficient for the expediency, but I am afraid I cannot send any home for a week or two in consequence. I am writing to uncle this week-end. Love to all I am Your loving son Cyril
