Printed letterhead: ‘Duke of Bedford Soldiers’ Institute. Conducted by Rev HG Reynolds’, ‘Landguard Camp, Felixstowe’ From: A1 Hut E Company 3rd Bedfordshire Regiment Dear Mama, I think we are here until Wednesday, when we shall ‘trek’ to Brockton [Brocton] of which the reports are very evil. Never mind, it is of no use to worry. Poor little Kathie’s plight worries me most for it is very hard for her and very lonely. Please be kind to her when she visits you, for she is almost afraid of you, I think. And visit Mrs Bates, mama dear, for she will make you very welcome always. You may write to me, mama, for I do not think we shall move until Wednesday. When you send my towel, which I should leave until we have removed our lodgings, could you send a cheap pair of gloves as my army gloves have again been stolen, and in a very mean fashion, which I really could not prevent. Any old pair darned up and dirty would do, you know, if you have them. Well good-bye mama and give my live to Maud. I am very sorry about the trip to London being such a ‘wash-out’. I had nearly forgotten the photo, with which I may state that I am very disappointed, aren’t you. There is one for Louis and Maud (not each) Your’s lovingly Cyril
