  • Scope and Content
Comments about the weather, which has improved, though the roads are still muddy and slippery. Knows nobody here but Lady Mansfield [Frederica Murray] and her family, who leave next Tuesday. Have managed to cure the house from smoking, which is a great advantage. All the letters received are full of alarming accounts of Ireland. Comments about [Prince Jules de] Polignac – to be confined at Mont St Michel. Hears that Charles X [of France] is in dreadful spirits. Lady Mansfield had had letters from Scotland stating that he had been visiting at different houses, but nothing could cheer him. Mention of accounts from France. Hopes the troubles in England are subsiding and that the recent executions have the desired effects. [Dating note: Writer’s brother Frederick William Robinson died February 1831]
