- Scope and ContentTranslation: My Lord, In the hope that Your Excellency might wish to continue to honour me with his patronage, being recommended by My Lord Rochford, I take the liberty of sending the enclosed note to recommend me to Le Comte de Ricla, with the agreement of Madame La Comtesse de Douaiviere de Balliencourt who honours me with her kindness and who advises me, and that Your Exc is willing to help me. The commission which I have exercised for nineteen months in this place where I have re-established peace and good order as much in the colony and workshops and service in the place, is another merit in my favour which, added to my campaigns, allows me to hope that the Minister might make representations to His Majesty, being recommended by Your Excellency, so much the better that he is sympathetic to me, that the Governor, owner by the charges laid upon him, walks about and takes his pleasure peacefully on full salary in Alicante, and here am I exiled in the middle of the sea, bound to threefold expense in a town, with no gratuity, no salary, as a place it will upset me if it continues, thus I hope that your Excellency will grant me the favour I sollicit, being with great respect My Lord, Your Excellency’s very humble and submissive servant, Rouges.
