Fritz relayed little girl's joke about his fur coat which delighted Grantham, "I...foolishly long to know the sound of those children's voices, till I can scarce utter my own". Particularly good weather. Carnival over, smell of bad oil in the street as they go into Lent. The new Swedes are well bred, the young Masserano's will attempt to attach them, latter’s house is full of French, Grantham esteems the French Embassador but dislikes the middling French. Description of Swedes. Played at the weekly concert of a good old German Lady's son. Ball on Monday. Danced his two Minuets with the youngest Benevente, Madame Dos[?], the prettiest woman he's seen in a long while. Describes preposterous dress of ladies. Expecting two cases of books. Pocket book bespoken, hopes it's ready for 3 May. Longing for picture of little girl. Will reply to George Carpenter's letter tomorrow. Masserano does not take [buy] the Coach at present.
