    Received his letter with the enclosure for Thomas Stevenson, which he has given him. Misapprehension regarding Servants tax being paid into the Excise; now paid to the Land tax collectors. Smith wrote to Mr. Lapierre in August concerning the issue, he answered that Smith need not take any more trouble about it, an account of the servants was sent to the Excise Office at Thirsk etc... Bricks made in Parker ground should be worth £60; "making" plus Excise for above comes to £57.19.6., damages to Parker for his ground are extra. Stevenson & Seward have paid Servants Tax for three Quarters to 4 January 1787 as follows; Thomas Smith, threequarters 18 shillings and 9d. Three maids, threequarters £1.2.6.
