- Scope and ContentInformation and complaint of Matthias Bone, Overseer of the parish of Ramsey, County of Huntingdon: Thomas Orpin Pratt (now confined at the House of Correction, Great Stukely in the County of Huntingdon, previously in the parish of Ramsey), Mary his wife and female child aged about 6 months not yet baptised came to inhabit in the said parish of Ramsey and are now actually chargeable. Last legal settlement is in Harrold, County of Bedfordshire. Examination ofThomas Orpin Pratt, carpenter & sawyer, now confined in the House of Correction at Great Stukeley: He is about 28 years of age and was born as he was informed and verily believes in the Parish of Harrold in the County of Bedford where his father and mother resided and were settled inhabitants. His father was by trade a carpenter and sawyer. He worked with his father at these trades at Harrold till he was about 24 years of age but was never bound apprentice to his father. When about 24 years of age he went to work with Mr Ellett of Northampton as a journeyman carpenter and staid with him eight or nine months and then returned to his father's at Harrold aforesaid, with whom he worked about six months and afterwards with Mr Goodliffe and his son at Harrold aforesaid where he said about 4 months. He then went to work as a journeyman carpenter at various places for short periods and in November last he went to reside at Ramsey in the said County of Huntingdon and worked with Mr Newton and Mr Putterill, farmers of that parish for a few months and ever since he has been residing there (except when seeking for employment). His father died about 4 years ago but his mother Elizabeth Pratt is still living at Harrold aforesaid. He further saith that he hath never to the best of his knowledge and belief done any act whereby to gain a settlement in his own right. On 20th March last he was lawfully married to Mary Johnson his present wife in the parish church of Ramsey in the County of Huntingdon by whom he hath one girl aged about 6 months who has not yet been baptised. He is with his said wife and child chargeable to the parish of Ramsey. Examination of Elizabeth Pratt of Harrold: She is the widow of James Pratt who was a carpenter and sawyer at Harrold aforesaid. He resided there for nearly 50 years abd died and was buried at Harrold aforesaid about four years since. She was lawfully married to James Pratt at the parish church of Harrold about 30 years since by whom she had several children and amongst others the pauper Thomas Orpin Pratt who was born and baptised at Harrold during the time her said husband was inhabiting in that parish. Examination of Richard Bond of Ramsey in the County of Huntingdon: He is Relieving Officer of the Ramsey District which is in the Huntingdon Poor Law Union. The said Thomas Orpin Pratt and his wife and their said child are now chargeable to the said parish of Ramsey as inhabitants of that parish which is in the Ramsey District of the Huntingdon Poor Law Union.
