  • Title
    a)Letter to G T Wilson Esquire, of Woburn, from Samuel Doubleday of Nottingham. 16th July 1861. He is enquiring after the late Mr & Mrs Palfreeman on behalf of Mrs and Miss Marshall, who wish this letter and enclosures to be forwarded to the nephew of the Palfreemans. Mrs Marshall a widow, over 70, her husband suffered great business losses prior to his death. Miss Marshall, her daughter, is 35. Since the death of Mr Marshall they have been employed as seamstresses. Miss Marshall has an affliction arising from injury of the hip joints and lower part of the spine and is confined almost entirely to bed, with excruciating suffering. As a consequence they found it difficult to pay rent and were moved to an almshouse in st Mary's Parish, Nottinghamshire where they live rent free, with coals supplied and an allowance of 4shillings per week, a sum too small to enable them to eke out an existence. Asks if Mr Palfreeman can help them. b) Encloses genealogical table and correspondence. c) Copies of letters from Elizabeth Palfreeman, wife of John Palfreman of Woburn Abbey, to Miss Betsey [Elizabeth} Marshall of 4 Poynton Street, Nottingham. 7 Jan 1852 : Sends a 1 postal order to Betsey for her mother who is in ill health. Mentions that John Palfreeman has rheumatism. 8 Nov 1852 writes from Brighton where they have been taking warm sea baths to aid rheumatism
