    Isaac Abrahams, a Polish Jew, after an adventurous career in many parts of the world, settled in Bedford to foudn the Bedford County Loans at 7 & 9 Castle Lane. He and his wife Esther had six children, the four youngest being born in Bedford and all being educated at Bedford schools. Three of the four boys competed in the Olympic Games as well as pursuing distinguished careers. Sir Adolphe Abrahams (6 February 1883 – 11 December 1967), fomrer Bedford Modern School pupil; Dean of Medical School, Westminster Hospital etc. M.O. British Olympics Teams 1912-1948. Dorothy Abrahams (later Eden) (1890-1976), a former High School pupil. Lionel Abrahams (1887-1952), former Bedford Modern School pupil; solicitor, coroner, chairman of St Neots Rural District Council. Harold Abrahams (15 December 1899 – 14 January 1978), Bedford School pupil; barrister, first secretary of National Parks Commission 1950-1968. Broadcaster, competed in the Olympics of 1920 and 1924 winning gold in the 100 metres, 1924. Sir Sidney Soloman Abrahams (11 February 1885 – 14 May 1957), former Bedford Modern School pupil; PC, QC, Chief Justice of Ceylon etc. competed in Olympics 1906 and 1912. Ida Abrahams (1893-?) a former High School pupil.
