    The King v. William John Davies Court of Trial : Bedfordshire Quarter Sessions held at Bedford William John Davies is charged with the following Offence :- 1st Count ; Statement of Offence :- Obtaining a valuable security by false pretences, contrary to section 32(1) of the Larceny Act , 1916 Particulars of Offence :- William John Davies on 13th August 1921 with intent to defraud obtained from Arthur Grey Duberly a valuable security, to wit, a cheque for a payment of £4 by falsely pretending that the said William John Davies had served in the 8th Hussars during the late War & was a variety artist & required money to travel to Aberdeen to fill an engaagement there & that he would be in a position to repay the moneyso adavnced to him. 2nd Count; Statement of Odffence :- Obtaining money by false pretences contrary to section 32(1) of the Larceny Act 1916 Particulars of Offence :- William John Davies on 28th August 1921 with intent to defraud obtained from Ernest Snowden St Quinton 2 pounds 10 shillings in money by falsely pretending that he the said William John Dives had an engagement in Aberdeen & required money to pay his railway fare & that he would be in a position to repay the money so advanced to him. 3rd Count ; Statement of Ofeence :- Attempting to obtain money by false pretences contrary to section 32(1) of the Larceny Act 1916 Particulars of Offence :- William John Davies on 2nd August 1921 with intent to defraud, attempted to obtain from Margaret , Lady Ampthill a sum of money by falsely pretending that he had an engagement as a variety artist at Penzance & reuired money to payhis railway fare & that he was known to Lady Mary Trefusis asister of the said Margaret, Lady Ampthill Date of Trial :- 12th October 1921 Pkea :- Guilty Verdict/Judgment :- 3 years penal servitude & 7 years police supervison Signed W W Marks Presiding Judge/ Chairman :- Henry Martin Lindsell CB
