- Admin/biog historyDeposited Lt. Colonel O.N.D Sismey, D.L. Offord Cluny Manor on 7 February 1958. This manor was held in the 17th century by the Rolt family, Edward Rolt dying in 1698. The same account says that there is then no trace of it till the latter oart of the 18th century, when it was in the possession of Mr Dean (quoting AD MS 9408); "from the latter it passed to a relative, John Sismey, who held it into the 19th century". John Sismey however, had it much earlier, for in 1721, being then of Thorpe Bywater, Rutland, he bought 1/3 from Ann Cumbrey, daughter of Robert Goodhall of Lincs; and in 1724 he bought 1/3 from Grace Goodhall, another daughter. (It would seem probable that either his wife or mother was a Goodhall, having already 1/2 share) His eldest son, the Rev. Thomas Sismey, of Marston Thrussell, Northants, was in possession in 1744; and apparently left it his brother James Sismey of Leicester, grocer, later of Knighton, Leicestershire, and who is possession in 1757. In 1808 it belonged to Thomas Sismey of Offord Cluny, esq, who appears to be still in possession in 1815. By 1842 and 1848 it had come to George Deane Sismey, who leased the manor-house as a farmhouse with 330 acres. The property as at first described consisted of the mansion house and 106 acres; and a farmhouse and 90 acres; all in closes. Some extra land was evidently acquired before 1842. An accompanying bundle of deeds deals with other closes, beginning with 60 acres in 1677 and becoming 120 acres by 1778; these pass through the hands of Parker, Storer and others to Wegg, and were presumably acquired by the Sismey's sometime after 1778.
