Scope and Content
(i) Thomas Dennys, senior, Upper Gravenhurst, Beds, yeoman, guardian for Mr Thomas Dennys son of Elizabeth Dennys decd. which Elizabeth was one of the daughters of William Luffyn decd.
(ii) Daniel Clarke, Upper Gravenhurst, yeoman, guardian for Thomas Clarke, son of Joane Clarke decd, which Joan was another of the daughters of William Luffyn, decd.
(iii) Humphrey Rolt, Shefford, yeoman, and wife Prudence, which Prudence was another of the daughters of William Luffyn, decd.
Agreement between the parties for the partition of
...one messuage one cottage and 4 acres land in Upper Gravenhurst held of the Manor of Gravenhurst alias Great Gravenhurst alias Upper Gravenhurst alias Tuelsbury. At the court for this manor held 14 April 1656 they were declared the next heirs and admitted tenant
A) Thomas Dennys the son to have the dwelling houses wherein Thomas Dennys the father now inhabits, consiting of an entry, a hall house, two chambers, a milk house, a butter, two lofts, a barn of two bays next the dwelling house, a little leanto at the chamber end, the foreyard so far extending as to the west corner of the barn, and the orchard so far extending as to the west end of the barn, and also half the close of pasture ground on the east side to be equally divided in the middle down to the field
B) Humfry Rolt and Prudence to have a barn of 3 bays on the west end of the yard, and the other barn adjoining to it, and the yard as far as Thomas Dennys barns end straight from the street to the orchard hedge and half the close of pasture on the west side. The charge for making a quickset fence down the middle of the pasture close divided between the two, or if they cant agree, each to make half the length
C) Thomas Clarke to have the messuage where Daniel Clake the guardian now lives, with the yard, which said messuage and yard adjoin the churchyard on the east and abut north on Mr Allen's ground, south on the street, and next the Countess of Kent's ground west
Also on acres of land in West Field abutg. south on the Common High Way next land of William Handscomb on both sides E and W abutting N on the town headland. Also one half acre in the same field being but one land between the other, land of William Handscomb on west and land occ. of William Peacock east, abutting north as aforesaid.
And two roods in Churchfield, one a headland abtg. on the west corner of the aforementioned close at the Lower end thereof; and other abutting westward on Robert Mathews land and Robert Mathews land lying south.
Daniel Clarke has also paid to Thomas Dennys ten shillings and to Humfry and Prudence Rolt ten shillings.
Agreed that Thomas Dennys shall have the crop which is now down on the edge land so as that he pay rent to Daniel for the said land till the crop be taken off, according to such proportion as edge land is let for Upper Gravenhurst
