- Admin/biog historyDeposited by Mr P. Kilby of Barkers Lane, Kensworth on 16 September 1982. Documents X638/1-6 give the descent of a cottage and land on SW of the Common Green in Kensworth from 1617 to 1650. The first conveyance by William Barber in 1617 seems to be the time the property was first divided from a larger estate, and the right to use a pond on the boundary of the orchard was retained by the vendor. X638/7 indicates that about 1692 Michael Howard sold off the west part of the premises, then also described as a cottage and land, to John Briden, but the occupants of the original cottage (later 3 cottages) retained the right to use the pond, which was now on the boundary of the orchard of the adjoining property. At the enclosure two allotments of land on the Common to the NW of the cottage extended the premises up to a newly laid out road. In 1873 the property was conveyed to Gustavus Gadsden Jones, who acquired in 1880 a piece of copyhold land to the east. X638-24-42 are title deeds of this from 1777.
